CNY2009

This CNY was great. as per every CNY but this year's was exceptional.

cos I fell in love.

with him:

A fat pekingese named Tubby. I went over to Paul's sister place for the sole purpose of playing with her 5 dogs but ended up falling for just one.

Oh I love you, Tubby. we'll meet again someday.

CNY eve eve.

and so it begins, the mad rush that is CNY. we spent an entire day shopping for decorations, food and plants.

plants that made the car look like a scene from Jurassic Park. I found it very funny and so did my mommy.

and would you believe they sold cherry blossoms?

so pretty. but they'll probably die in days. and they're overpriced too. $18 for a pot that is barely flowering?

anyway it's 0059 now and I need to sleep. waking up bright and early to go to the temple.

Happy CNY all! :)

yum

I realised today that places that sell the best food are usually those with questionable sanitation. I ate the most awesome wanton mee today (thanks to Alvin) at a fairly disgusting coffee shop, tucked away in some godforsaken place. I couldn't get over the fact that I accidentally brushed the groove in one of the legs of the plastic chair I was sitting on when I was going for an itch on my ankle.

the.chair.was.sick.

but you know what. I might seriously consider going back there again. cos the wanton mee is as good as the chair was grimy.

today was a day of good food! dinner at vivo city's food court. the ba kut teh is t3h yumz. t3h yumz.

happy Friday everyone!

I think I'll just quit school now.

SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months.

The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland's state government announced on Tuesday.

In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English.

"They'll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they're doing so they can't be too shy and they'll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," said acting state Premier Paul Lucas.

"The fact that they will be paid to explore the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, swim, snorkel and generally live the Queensland lifestyle makes this undoubtedly the best job in the world."

---------------------------------------------------------------

or maybe I shouldn't quit just yet. get my degree in communication then i'll come across as a competent communicator, bagging the job. and I kinda consider aussie my home away from home cos I've been there like a million times (my uncle is there + fishing!). oh btw, The Great Barrier Reef is my favourite place in the world, if you didnt already know.

Tired

yes I am quite tired. and i'm gonna get even more tired really soon.

the pace is slowly picking up in school. and I have only been back 2 days. after mass com class today I turned to Jeremy and said 'let the piah-ing begin.' research paper and whatnots due SO SOON? not funny lah.

anyway, just came back from a buffet dinner in school. a little something for those in the photoshoot. which I looked spasctic in. Jiajia and barney on the other hand looked good. Jiajia if you're reading, you haven't signed my brochure. haha.

I think i'm in love with Jessica Stroup. not in a lesbian way, but in a !@#$-the-world-is-SO-unfair-how-can-someone-have-eyes-like-that kinda way.

I need to stop watching shows. One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and now 90210? tell me i'm such a high-school-drama junkie.

Picture post!

Let me just say this - I am truly grateful for camera phones cos I am a huge fan of spontaneous picture-taking. Especially when the pictures are stupid ones.

Is anyone else deeply disturbed by this picture? you should see the actual-size one in taka. like piano porn.

and what's Japan without weird signs?

I like how they feel they owe you an explanation for asking you to do/not to do something in many of their signs.

and the toilets had: 'Please do not throw rubbish into the toilet, or the pipes will get stuck.' and then they had drawings on the wall instructing how you should sit/squat.

one of the hotel's I stayed in had this on the door: 'Please do take a shower with the door open. Steam from the hot water will make a fire alarm ring.' hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

this was at a train station. it says at the bottom 'Please refrain from drunken behaviour.'

Something about the last panel's 'Squeeze the lever' makes me laugh really badly.

oh and another thing I do when I'm really bored... is strange things to my room. one time had me painting vines on my wall around my toilet door, another had me lining little christmas lights all over the shelves on my wall.

today I did this:

I was going through some old things in my closet and found a bunch of left over stuff from my sister's wedding - corsages, ribbons, little stalks of feathers and flowers. so I took the flowers and stuck them all around my plain mirror.

and the corsages went on my wall next to all my sister's wedding pictures I had put up before.

I really didnt want to see them go to waste, I put a lot of effort into making them. but it was a good day, my sister's wedding. :) I feel happy just thinking about it.

SA meetings.

I

M

SO

BORED

and when I'm bored, I tend to spend a lot of money.

shopping.

I have a fellow shopaholic friend and we both agree that we need to join Shopaholics Anonymous. right Jeremy?

although, I have to say I was pretty good today; I didnt get anything for myself! I got something for Alvin. YAY! does that count?

the fact that my dad keeps putting money into my account does not help.

2009

2008 died in a rather strange fashion.

not that anything weird happened, but while I was amidst the craziness on the balcony of my uncle's place hollering 'happy new year' along with everyone else, I couldn't stop thinking about how quickly time is passing.

after the madness settled at about 00:30, I sat alone at the balcony and a feeling of nostalgia washed over me. something about the smell of the night air brings about a strange atmosphere. almost enigmatic. I had to pluck myself from the reverie but not before I've had my fill.

CNY this year will be a stark difference from last year's. one of the main highlights of my CNY would be, as weird as it sounds, deep fried chicken wings at my late grandpa's sister's place. she's pushing 93 (I think) and is of course the most important relative to visit over CNY. this year however, we won't be stopping by. she took a fall not too long ago and is currently under the care of a nursing home (again, 'I think'. she's somewhere, just not home).

on to my new year's resolution(s) -

1. I will attempt to dress better.
2. Attempt to think positively.

as you can see, operative word for 1 & 2 is 'attempt'. we'll see how I do.

Good morning, '09.
